Navigating Melbourne public transport with a pram

Melbourne's public transport is more pram-friendly than many parents expect — once you know the tricks.

Trams

Low-floor trams have fold-down pram spaces near the doors. Routes 96, 16, and 109 are solid city options. St Kilda Foreshore stop is step-free with a nearby path to the playground.

Trains

All suburban trains have designated pram/wheelchair spaces. Check the PTV app for lifts before you go.

Flinders Street Station has lifts at both entrances and a change table in the accessible toilet.

Southern Cross for longer trips

Southern Cross Station has an excellent parents' room on the mezzanine with three private nursing cubicles and a microwave.

Top tips

  1. Download the PTV app and filter stops by "accessible" before leaving home.

  2. Travel off-peak (before 7:30 am or after 9 am) for a stress-free experience.
